Brandi and the Alexanders are a genre-bending soul-rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Initially formed in 2014 as a 9-piece classic R&B cover band, by 2016 they had begun writing original material inspired by bluesy Southern soul and rock albums plus harder 70’s-era funk, culminating in their 2018 debut, How Do You Like It? (Red Parlor Records).
The band has played extensively, opening for the likes of Moonchild, Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed, and Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram; Have been featured on national radio, NPR Music, Paste Magazine sessions, and appearances at Nashville’s Americanafest, Tryon Blues Festival, as well as the Chicago-Naperville Ribfest - a dream of singer and Chicago native Brandi Thompson. Brandi and the Alexanders have performed all over NYC, from Mercury Lounge, Brooklyn Bowl, and Rockwood Music Hall to Bowery Ballroom, Le Poisson Rouge, and (RIP) Rough Trade. Brandi has even sung at CitiField!
SoFar Sounds describe the band as a "psych-soul butterfly" and in 2022 they've emerged with two new singles (Fire + Watch You Dance) with radio buzz and a new EP dropping SEPTEMBER 2ND. Recording broadened their influences, too: St. Vincent-baptized guitar lines, Purple Rain-era Prince synth, and gospel organ, Isaac Hayes-styled arrangements, 90’s G-Funk-inspired bass and drums, all backing Brandi’s cinematic vocals.
The EP, REFLECTION, is many things. A labor of love. A vibe. A collection of songs about family, Black empowerment, heartache, self-confidence, and even temptation - all while living through what feels as if someone left their finger on fast-forward for world history.
